The foundation’s trustees have personally worked with the following charities and personally vouch for their professional integrity, and dedication. Working with the respective operational teams, as well as interacting with the children themselves, we have immense gratitude for all the work being done through these charities. Through these personal relationships the foundation takes pride to ensure that all donations go directly to specific projects that serve our children.
Unique Home for Girls
Unique Home for Girls is an orphanage for unwanted, abandoned girls in Punjab, North India. Due to many cultural and economic reasons, boys are regarded as the preferred sex, and consequently female foeticide and infanticide is often the chosen path for many women who feel they have no alternative. 274 girls die every day in Punjab before they are born. Unique Home is currently taking care of 88 girls aged between 1 month to 18 years. They are being raised with meticulous care and unconditional love by one amazing woman – Bibi Parkash Kaur, who the girls lovingly call ‘Mama’.
The Trust is financed through personal donations from ordinary people like ourselves (an extraordinary feat) and caters for the girls’ basic needs which includes food, clothes, accommodation, schooling, healthcare, transportation and personal safety.
Our new program SPONSOR A DAUGHTER, is designed to ensure that this safe haven is able to meet the ever evolving needs of each girl without any lack or restrictions because we believe every child deserves love, commands respect, experience a sense of belonging, and has every opportunity to flourish regardless of their gender. The Akanksha Foundation
The Akanksha Foundation is a non-profit organization in India that’s on a mission to provide children from low-income communities with a high-quality education. Akanksha’s work in the field of education at a national level, initiated school reform through The School Project, and provides a supplemental education through the Akanksha Centers.
Currently, Akanksha reaches out to over 5000 children through its 8 centers and 16 schools in Mumbai and Pune.
The School Project is a venture in partnership with local municipalities, with the vision of creating small clusters of model schools in these cities that can be used to impact the mainstream education system. Through the Akanksha Centers, a commitment is made to support each child by providing a strong educational foundation, after school tuition, a good time in a safe educational environment, mentoring with self-esteem and confidence issues, and support to help plan how the children can earn a steady livelihood as a step towards improving their standard of living.
The children benefitting from the foundation are an integral part of the organization and are recognized through various initiatives like Art For Akanksha, Mentoring Programs and Scholarships.
