Despite all the modern advancements, India still seems to be a nation that continues to be unwelcoming to the girl child. In many instances, she is prevented from being born and if she manages to survive, there are several barriers that block her path to a life of equal opportunity.
Our girls have immense potential to make themselves, their families, and their communities try proud – and yet, millions of little girls in India do not get proper healthcare, nutrition, or education and are vulnerable to exploitation. 1 in every 3 child brides in the world is from India and almost 13 million girls work to support their families. Not only are they forced to drop out of school, but they are also deprived of the opportunity to achieve their true potential.
This is one of the key reasons why Wish To Learn was set up. Over the past six years, the most important thing at the forefront of our efforts has always been to do more for our girls. This is why we chose to work with Unique Home For Girls in Punjab (India).
We’re truly proud to be of service to this unique charity where nearly 100 girls are being cared for by the immensely respected, most gracious, and humble adopted mother, Bibi Parkash Kaur. Our trustees have personally experienced the care and unconditional love given to abandoned newborn girls, toddlers, school-age and college-going daughters in this truly unique home.

Sponsor A Daughter is a commitment you, as a sponsor, make to partner with the individual girl child, and the orphanage, through Wish To Learn. We work together to ensure that the vulnerable girl child experiences sustained well-being from the moment she is left at the orphanage until she willingly decides to get married with the careful guidance of their adopted mother. It is a relationship not just between you and your sponsored daughter but also with your sponsored daughter’s entire adopted family and community.
You can sponsor up to 3 daughters as a long-term commitment, for up to 10 years or more. You will be sponsoring the same daughter for as long as the program continues or as long as the daughter remains in the sponsorship program (often well into their teens). On occasion, there may be a change in the circumstances of either your sponsored daughter or you, which may reduce the period of sponsorship.

Wish To Learn’s mission is to NURTURE, EDUCATE and ENABLE every daughter living at the home. Your support will provide each daughter with opportunities to access primary health care, a safe place to live in, good nutritional food, clean drinking water, sanitation and clean clothes, a safe transportation system, and quality education. This gives every daughter in the home a chance to experience a safe, normal, healthy, and happy childhood – a birthright we’re all entitled to, and to grow into confident young women ready to take on the world. We also take measures to ensure that every person in the community becomes a strong and productive member, thus moving the whole community towards self-reliance.
You have the option of sponsoring up to 3 daughters living at the home. The cost of sponsoring ONE daughter is $38 per month, TWO daughters is $76 per month, and THREE daughters is $114 per month. The monthly amount will be taken automatically once you complete the application form using your credit card. The transaction will show WISH TO LEARN as the beneficiary on your bank statements.
We request that you commit to a minimum of 1 year sponsorship period. Before the year ends you will be sent a renewal notice and will have the option to continue supporting a daughter/s on a monthly basis at your discretion. If you wish to cancel your sponsorship or change the donation amount at any point, then please do email us at info@wishtolearn.org so that we can ensure a seamless transition.
TRUST. We operate with integrity and are here to serve these daughters. Wish To Learn is an official charity registered with Charity Commission in the UK. All your donations are received into the Wish To Learn bank account and the monthly total is sent directly to Unique Home For Girls at the end of each month via official bank transfers. No overheads are applied to the Sponsor A Daughter program, so 100% of your donation goes directly to your sponsored daughter’s monthly upkeep. All administrative costs are kept to a minimum and covered by Wish To Learn, with our Trustees personally taking control of all administrative processes. Bank charges and fees are taken care of by the foundation’s bank. Sponsorship is a way to maximize your impact while serving a home full of daughters. We know that helping these daughters and their community is the best way to secure their futures. And we couldn’t do this work without the support of our sponsors.
Wish To Learn is an official charity registered with Charity Commission in the UK. We can provide you with a receipt for your donations that you can use in your Federal and State tax filings. If you do choose a company-run matching scheme, we are registered on the Benevity platform that most companies use. In this way, you can select Wish To Learn and have your company match the donation. Please refer to your accountant relating to your specific tax filing and any potential tax credits.
Your monthly support contributes to taking care of each daughter’s basic needs (medical costs, school fees, food, clothes, and general upkeep at home) on a consistent basis. Working with the team at Unique Home, we have taken account of covering all basic expenses for each daughter on a monthly basis which in the past has been dependent on private donations. During the pandemic, we saw a huge decline in donations due to changing priorities which made it challenging to cover unseen costs in caring for the girls. Your monthly contributions combined with those of other sponsors, provide a steady stream of funding for long-term solutions, and ensure we take some of the major the pressure off and focus on our daughters’ daily wellbeing, plus doing more to serve them.
Wish To Learn is in the process of finalizing details with Unique Home for a monthly newsletter that all sponsoring families will receive. Our team and Bibi Parkash Kaur (mama to all daughters) are very cautious about our daughters’ privacy and therefore want to ensure that any information shared is first agreed upon carefully. The monthly newsletter will share key highlights from the daughters’ lives, their achievements, and any challenges being faced. Bibi Prakash Kaur celebrates ALL daughters’ birthdays on the same day, 24th April every year, so special celebration details will be included in the upcoming newsletters.
We are working with the home to establish a process where our sponsors can write letters or send cards to daughters at the home. Due to privacy rules, we suggest that all letters/ cards are sent to Bibi Prakash Kaur who will share the content with all daughters. We at Wish To Learn have visited Unique Home for Girls Jalandhar many times and found the best way is to contact Bibi Prakash Kaur or Alka (manager) directly to schedule your visit. You will have an opportunity to meet all the daughters and speak with them. Our priority is our daughters’ safety and privacy, so access has to be obtained by going through the Unique Home management team.
